Because of my middle name (Aljibe), I always get asked a lot whether I am a Muslim or I have Andaluz roots when I was in Cuba and Mexico. This has piqued my interest about Andalucia for the longest time. I finally had an opportunity to visit this May. When I was planning the itinerary of my travels, I selected Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Malaga without putting much thought about it. I merely looked at the map and decided that Cordoba, being the closest one to Madrid would be my jump-off point. From there, the other cities are a just a bus-ride away.

We visited Seville and Cordoba in 2013 also.. Now I am envious of your blog...I am tempted to write one too :)
ReplyDeleteGlad we didn't take the turibus in Cordoba..or else, I would be "fat and lazy" :)
Didn't visit Malaga and Granada ...thanks for sharing your story
Hahaha... It's a joke that one of my old college professors used to say: "unless you're sick, dying or dead, avoid this and that." What makes visiting Europe great is its extensive bike lanes. Just pedal or walk instead of riding those buses.
DeleteUnfortunately I don't know how to bike :) ... but it is nice to walk around in Europe ...and I am glad Europe has an excellent train system :)
DeleteI didn't realize that this is a long blog until I reached the end...so many interesting stories, I got carried away reading them
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that Gothic cathedral in Seville is the 3rd largest...
Why is Malaga a good place to retire? ...but Spain is so pretty ... It is a country worth retiring
Did you find out if "Alijibe" means something?
I agree... trip to Spain comes with a a great cost ... but one will leave it with great and wonderful experience
Hope to visit it again and see Granada and Malaga... specially why Malaga is a good place to retire.:)
Try to see Galicia too... it is different from Andalucia ...but also interesting
Aljibe means water cistern or water tank. Term was used in Latin America as well in the Philippines. Moorish origin, Andaluz in fact.
DeleteMalaga is super nice. Very vibrant seaside city, full of life with a lot of nice restos and bars.
Great that you were able to see the vibrant Spanish bars and restos ... I experienced the tapas hopping in Zaragosa but were not able to visit the bars in Seville, Madrid or in Compostela ...
ReplyDeletea city along seaside is really pretty .....
